Description

Grand Central Terminal, wrongly but commonly known as Grand Central Station, is a renowned beaux-arts beauty that was completed in 1913. Its exquisite main concourse boasts Tennessee-marble floors and Italian-marble ticket counters, as well as a fantastic ceiling that was painted by the French artist Paul César Helleu, depicting the constellations. Though commuters bemoaned the fact that the sky was depicted incorrectly, with stars that looked as if they were seen from above rather than up, it was claimed that this was done on purpose - likely to avoid having to admit an error.
